Property Assessment & Taxpayer Advisory Committee

The Property Assessment & Taxpayer Advisory Committee would serve in an advisory capacity, providing community knowledge and practical experience to help Council strengthen public understanding of property assessments, taxpayer education, and transparency.

Better information leads to better decisions. By encouraging education, transparency, and constructive public participation, the Committee would support a stronger relationship between residents, Council, and the assessment process.

Potential Areas of Focus

  • Assessment literacy
  • Understanding property assessment notices
  • Public workshops and information sessions
  • Assessment appeal process education
  • Senior assistance and community outreach
  • Public access to assessment resources

Supporting Taxpayer Understanding

The Committee would not hear or decide individual assessment appeals. Those responsibilities would remain with Manitoba's established assessment and appeal process.

Instead, the Committee would identify recurring concerns, recommend improvements to public information, and help residents better understand the assessment system.

Working alongside the proposed Property Assessment Resource Centre, the Committee would help guide future educational resources, assessment workshops, online tools, and public outreach.
